My thoughts on Typekit.
Typekit allows web designers and developers a way of embedding non-system-specific fonts using the font-face CSS property and jQuery. After a quick and easy registration process on the Typekit website, selecting my fonts, and adding 2 lines of javascript code to my website, I was up and running. Simple as that. So whats the problem? Well, I’m not really going to moan about the limited...

Geneto Architects, Kyoto and Tokyo
I had the pleasure spending some time with furniture designer Asako Yamashita and architect Ko-ji Yamanaka at their studio in Kyoto recently. The team are a very inspiring bunch, taking on projects such as house design to commercial spaces and installations. Geneto recently designed a custom installation for the Diesel Denim Gallery in Aoyama,Tokyo, which featured ‘lightening shaped...

Keibunsha Books, Gifts and Gallery, Kyoto
After browsing Keibunsha’s website, I was looking forward to what treasures I might find when I visited the store in person. As expected it was a sensory overload - with an intense selection of current and vintage design books. I was immediately trying to work out how much ‘extra’ weight I could carry in my backpack, but came to the sorry conclusion it was ‘none’....

Tools I used for building my online portfolio.
Having just put my website live, I thought I’d share with you a summary of the tools I used… Headdress Headdress allows you to virtually host websites on your local network without having to dig through configuration files. I use this application when I start to hand code my HTML/CSS templates. It’s also very handy for browser testing before the HTML goes anywhere else, on...

Transport Pod - a sensual light, sound and space...
Mexican born designer Alberto Frias has designed this fantastic pod environment. The pod comes with a full spectrum led lighting system, water mattress and sound system. I’d rather spend a night in a pod than a capsule! via Minimalist Design

Printing Museum, Tokyo.
I set off for Edogawabashi this morning to find the amazing Toppan building - home to the Printing Museum of Tokyo. Once I got over how lovely the outside of the building was, I worked my way downstairs to the exhibition hall, to be greeted by 2 enthusiastic Japanese girls. The purpose of the museum is to explain the value and potential of printing as a form of communication. The exhibit...

Making friends in Tokyo.
Well, it’s been a good 21 days since I left the warm depths of South East Asia for Tokyo. Every day in the city so far has brought a smile to my face, be it visual inspiration, food delights, cultural differences or just plain random occurrences! The highlight of my time in Tokyo so far was an 8 minute appearance on Mezamashi TV, who sent me traveling to Akita in the north of Japan to...

2010 brings me a new website and blog.
I have finally found the time whilst traveling to put my portfolio website together. Tokyo seemed like the perfect inspirational place to settle down and get creative with the laptop. An online portfolio is something I’ve never had in 10 years of designing websites professionally. My Mac also died on me with an earlier attempt, so I guess it wasn’t meant to be! www.jonleverrier.com ...
